Nertz vs Dutch Blitz

Both games are racing solitaire: no turns, shared center piles, a personal pile you must empty. The cards and the build rules are where they split. Polar Pounce is a free iOS game in this family. play it on the App Store.

Same game family

Historians and rule sites group Nertz (Nerts), Pounce, Racing Demon, Dutch Blitz, and Ligretto together: simultaneous play, a personal “get rid of this stack” pile, and a public middle everyone fights over.

If you grew up with Bicycle cards at game night, you probably learned Nertz. If you grew up with pumpkin / carriage / bucket / plow cards (or Ligretto’s colored 1–10s), you learned Dutch Blitz. The panic is the same.

Where Polar Pounce sits

Mechanically Polar Pounce is closer to Dutch Blitz: four colors, build up in the same color, no face cards. Layout is closer to Nertz: 13-card pounce pile and four work piles. Ranks go to 14, so rounds last a bit longer than a 1–10 Dutch Blitz deck.

That is why people searching either name can land here: you will recognize the race even if the exact house rules differ.
